recovered_the_kensington_sessions_2cd
Recovered - The Kensington Sessions

Recorded in Toronto in 1969, these previously unreleased sessions pair Murray McLauchlan with members of the psychedelic folk-rock group Kensington Market. Produced by Felix Pappalardi, the recordings feature the band’s Luke Gibson, Eugene Martynec, Alex Darou and Jimmy Watson. They predate McLauchlan’s 1971 debut, Song from the Street, placing them at the beginning of his recording catalogue. Electric guitar, bass, drums and keyboards give his early songwriting the close, live-in-the-room character of a late-1960s studio band.

Released by Borealis Music, Recovered - The Kensington Sessions sits between folk, singer-songwriter material and period folk rock, with McLauchlan’s direct vocal framed by lightly psychedelic electric arrangements and an unvarnished rhythm section. The programme includes early recordings of songs associated with his formative writing years, offering a view of the material before his established 1970s sound. Borealis issued the album in separate vinyl and CD editions. It belongs with Canadian folk-rock collections and listeners interested in the Yorkville scene and the roots of McLauchlan’s catalogue.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0784/2041/0682/files/Screenshot_2026-11-03_at_9.27.44_PM.jpg?v=1793760501
