the_path_of_totality
The Path Of Totality

Korn’s The Path of Totality is the band’s tenth studio album, released in December 2011 through Roadrunner Records, and a deliberate collision between nu metal and dubstep. Rather than handing existing songs over for remixes, Korn developed new material with electronic producers including Skrillex, Noisia, Excision, Downlink, and Kill the Noise. The resulting sound places Jonathan Davis’s anguished vocals and the band’s heavy guitar textures alongside distorted synthesizers, programmed rhythms, and explosive bass drops. “Get Up!,” produced with Skrillex, establishes that confrontational approach, while “Narcissistic Cannibal,” featuring Skrillex and Kill the Noise, gives it a more melodic shape through a haunting vocal and a forceful chorus.

The approach extends beyond the singles: opener “Chaos Lives in Everything” introduces the electronic attack immediately, while “Sanctuary” and “Let’s Go,” made with Downlink and Noisia respectively, explore the balance between guitars and synthesizers. Critical reactions divided sharply over whether those elements reinforced one another or competed for space. Loudwire praised the combination as a successful reinvention, whereas the BBC acknowledged its adventurous spirit but found much of the songwriting less compelling than the production. That disagreement captures the album’s defining tension: it is unmistakably Korn in vocal character and emotional intensity, yet its electronic framework makes it one of the clearest departures from the band’s established sound.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0784/2041/0682/files/Screenshot_2026-10-15_at_8.20.59_PM.jpg?v=1792110295
