Description

Alter Ego is Prince Royce’s sixth studio album and his first double album, released on February 7, 2020 by Sony Music Latin. The project comprises 23 tracks and runs about 1 hour and 20 minutes, with the physical edition split into two discs titled Génesis and Enigma, each representing a different facet of his artistry and of romantic relationships. Preceded by a long run of singles—“El Clavo” (and its Maluma remix), “Adicto” (with Marc Anthony, plus a salsa version), “Cúrame” (with Manuel Turizo), “Morir Solo,” “Trampa” (with Zion & Lennox), “Dec. 21,” and “Cita”—the album also includes “Carita de Inocente,” “Si Supieras,” “Una Aventura” (with Wisin & Yandel), “Señorita Por Favor,” “Luna Negra,” “Fill Me In,” “Really Real,” “Yo Te Soñé,” “Besos Mojados,” “Me Robaste la Vida,” “Contra la Pared,” “Lotería,” and more, weaving together collaborations with major Latin stars and solo cuts into a cohesive narrative.

Royce has described the concept as “the two sides of romance” and “two sides of Prince Royce,” with Génesis embodying beginnings, light, and more traditional, melodic bachata, and Enigma leaning into darker, more experimental and urban‑inflected sounds that explore complications, secrecy, and emotional conflict. Musically, the album is anchored in modern bachata but frequently branches into urbano, salsa, R&B, and pop, showing his range while keeping his distinctive romantic style at the center. Lyrically, Alter Ego moves through stages of love and heartbreak—from infatuation and sensuality to betrayal, loneliness, and self‑redefinition—often highlighting how one relationship can contain both tenderness and toxicity. On release, the album debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and was later certified 6× Latin Platinum by the RIAA, confirming it as a major milestone in his career and a sprawling, concept‑driven showcase of the different “selves” within Prince Royce’s music.
