Description

Apocalypse is the fifth studio album by Crown Lands — the Toronto-based progressive rock duo of vocalist and drummer Cody Bowles and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Kevin Comeau — released on May 15, 2026 through InsideOut Music. The album was largely written and recorded in the band's own studio with assistance at key stages from producers Nick Raskulinecz and David Bottrill, both veterans of work with Rush, and represents what Rough Trade describes as their "most demanding and fully realized work to date." Conceptually, Apocalypse is a complete, side-to-side narrative experience set in the same science fiction universe as their 2023 album Fearless, following the character Blackstar and his conquest under the oppressive Syndicate, with themes of cyclical violence and a final, tentative spark of hope. At 42 minutes and just seven tracks, it is built as a true concept album — the first time the duo has threaded a single narrative across an entire record from beginning to end.

The album's defining statement is its closing 19-minute title track, released as the lead single in February 2026 and described by The Prog Report as "possibly the most polished and ambitious prog anthem of the year." The preceding six tracks — including the marching "Foot Soldiers of the Syndicate," the ominous character study "Blackstar," and the brooding "The Revenants I" — are tightly constructed and relatively compact, building narrative and musical momentum that the title track then unleashes in full. Drawing comparisons to Rush, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, and Kansas, Crown Lands wear their classic prog and hard rock influences openly while keeping the sound immediate and alive. The Prog Report concluded that with Apocalypse, the band position themselves as "one of the new-generation bands poised to carry progressive rock into the next decade and beyond," and The Elite Extremophile awarded the album 87 out of 100, calling it "a great record" that uses its retro influences to create something "intense and exciting."
