Eagles helped define the polished, country-tinged sound of 1970s California rock, pairing close harmonies with crisp guitars and songs about freedom, loneliness, and the darker side of the American dream. Formed in Los Angeles by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner, the group first found its footing on Eagles and Desperado, where acoustic picking and country rhythms sit alongside memorable songs such as “Take It Easy,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” and “Tequila Sunrise.”

Their sound grew tougher and more expansive on On the Border and One of These Nights, then reached its best-known form with Hotel California. That album’s layered guitars, immaculate vocals, and uneasy late-night atmosphere still reward a full listen beyond the title track, especially on “New Kid in Town” and “The Last Resort.” The Long Run brought a sleeker, more road-worn finish before the band’s long initial break. Eagles records remain easy to return to because the playing is precise without feeling cold, and those harmonies can make even the most restless songs feel instantly familiar.
