Description

Best of Rockpalast Vol. 2 is a live compilation released in 2026 via MIG Music, drawing from the archives of Rockpalast, the legendary German television concert series that has been broadcasting live rock performances into European living rooms since the mid-1970s. Produced by WDR, the public broadcaster in Cologne, Rockpalast built one of the most extensive and historically significant vaults of live rock footage in existence, capturing artists at venues across Germany over more than four decades. This second volume follows the surprise success of Best of Rockpalast Vol. 1 and assembles 13 tracks carefully selected to reflect the breadth and authentic atmosphere of the series, spanning performances recorded between 1976 and 2008.

The tracklist ranges widely across rock's classic era and subgenres, from hard rock and blues to Southern rock, punk, and rockabilly. Highlights include Wishbone Ash performing "The King Will Come" live at the Sporthalle Köln in 1976, Muddy Waters' "Baby Please Don't Go" from the 1978 Westfalenhalle Dortmund show, George Thorogood & The Destroyers tearing through "Who Do You Love," The Outlaws' extended take on "Ghost Riders in the Sky" from the 1981 Loreley open-air, 38 Special's "Hold On Loosely," Dickey Betts & Great Southern performing "Ramblin' Man," and Stiff Little Fingers with "Alternative Ulster." The compilation closes with Randy Hansen Band's rendition of "Hey Joe" from the 1991 Jimi Hendrix Concert at the E-Werk Köln, covering a total runtime of just under 74 minutes and offering a broad survey of the concert series' remarkable reach across rock history.
