Blessed Be The Dark is the debut full-length album by Demon Spell, a heavy metal band formed in 2023 in Catania, Sicily, released on April 24, 2026 via Dying Victims Productions. The album follows their 2024 EP Evil Nights and represents the band's first statement across a full album's length — eight tracks, running just under thirty-five minutes. The cover artwork, designed by guitarist Francesco Bauso, evokes the aesthetic of Italian horror cinema of the 1970s, and the album's sound is equally rooted in an earlier era: dark, occult-tinged heavy metal drawing deeply from the early 1980s, with Mercyful Fate and King Diamond as the most frequently cited touchstones. The lineup — Federico Fano on vocals, Bauso on guitar, Riccardo Liberti on bass, and Dario Casabona on drums — operates with the disciplined economy of a band that knows exactly what it wants to sound like, and wastes no time getting there.

Across tracks like the opening "As Lucifer Smiles," the driving "Hexes and Horrors," "Curse of the Undead," and "Dive the Hellfire," the album moves at a fast, nervous clip, with Fano's vocals drawing natural comparisons to King Diamond in their theatrical range and sinister delivery. As Metal Forces notes, the record is "tastefully designed like some mesmeric slab of obscure 80s metal," with a vintage, dusty production quality that suits the material's crypt-dwelling sensibility. A brief atmospheric interlude, "Premonitions," leads into the title-track closer, adding a touch of ceremonial pacing to the album's otherwise headlong energy. Sputnikmusic awarded it 4.5 out of 5 and called it "excellent rough and tumble Mercyful Fate worship," while Dark Souls United praised the band for using the Mercyful Fate blueprint as a foundation for genuine original songwriting rather than mere imitation — rating it 8.5/10.
