Born To Break Even

Born To Break Even is the 2026 album by Toronto’s Doghouse Rose, released July 31 through Stomp Records. Across ten tracks, the band works in a lively overlap of melodic punk, pop-punk, skate punk, power pop, and new-wave-inflected rock, pairing distorted power chords and quick tempos with especially strong hooks. It follows 2023’s Unlearn and reflects more than a decade of friendship, touring, setbacks, and DIY persistence; the title itself captures the feeling of pushing through uncertainty without expecting easy rewards.

The songs balance punchy, communal energy with candid themes of endurance and anxiety. The title track addresses the daily struggle to stay afloat—“one step forward” followed by another setback—while “The Order of the Sun,” “Hollywood,” “It Gets Worse,” “This Thing We Started,” “The Boys,” “Dumpsville,” “Brightside,” “Anthem,” and “One More Time” broaden that outlook into reflections on touring life, mental health, friendship, and the sustaining release of a crowded punk show. Fronted by Sarah Beth Rose’s vocals, Born To Break Even is described as the group’s most expansive release to date: vulnerable and witty in its writing, but designed to be played loudly, sung along with, and shared among friends.
