Cinematic
Josh Groban
Cinematic is Josh Groban's tenth studio album, released on May 8, 2026 via Reprise Records, and represents his first full collection of newly recorded material since 2020's Harmony. Produced by Greg Wells — whose credits include the soundtracks to Wicked and The Greatest Showman, as well as albums for Adele, Dua Lipa, and Taylor Swift — and recorded across Los Angeles, New York, and London, the ten-track album is a tribute to the emotional power of film music. Groban curated a set of iconic songs from across cinema history, from the 1942 classic Casablanca to the 2017 Pixar film Coco, with five of the ten selections being Oscar winners and two others Academy Award nominees. "There's something incredibly powerful about the way a song or score can elevate a story and stay with you long after the credits roll," Groban explained. "With Cinematic, I wanted to honor that feeling — the nostalgia, the drama, the romance — while bringing my own voice and perspective to these timeless songs."
The album opens with a warm, restrained reading of "As Time Goes By" from Casablanca, followed by a thunderously elegant take on Adele's Bond theme "Skyfall." The emotional and artistic centerpiece is "Brucia La Terra" from The Godfather, performed in Sicilian with full operatic intensity, while "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King — featuring the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles — becomes a sweeping orchestral ballad. The album's most anticipated moment is "Unchained Melody," a duet with Jennifer Hudson whose explosive vocal power pairs beautifully with Groban's smoother tone, building to a breathtaking shared climax. Equally affecting is "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's, which features a trumpet solo by Groban's father Jack — lending the track an uncommon intimacy — and "Against All Odds," which transforms Phil Collins's heartbreak anthem into a piece of orchestral tragedy. The set closes with a quietly reassuring "Stand By Me," delivered with warmth and restraint.
