Helicon Blue
Collection is a compilation release by Helicon Blue, the St. Catharines, Ontario three-piece featuring Dallas Green on vocals and guitar, Marce Lanteigne on vocals and bass, and Nick Osczypko on drums. The band predates Green's work with both Alexisonfire and City and Colour, making these recordings a rare glimpse into his earliest years as a songwriter. The band originally recorded a self-titled EP independently and then a second EP produced with Greg Below of Distort Entertainment; Collection brings both of those early 2000s releases together across nine tracks, including "The Great Escape," "Machinery Faintly Purred," "Ballad in Blue," and "Perpetual Healing." The music reflects the introspective, melodic sensibility that would later define Green's solo work — quiet, earnest, and grounded in plainspoken emotional songwriting.
The release was issued by Dine Alone Records in 2015 as the first title in their DA10 anniversary series, celebrating the label's tenth year with a run of limited-edition vinyl reissues tied to their earliest artists. The deluxe vinyl package was pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl in two formats — 200 copies on Clear & Tan Marble and 550 copies on black — each hand-numbered and housed in Eurostyle inner sleeves alongside inserts featuring never-before-seen photographs and lyrics handwritten by Green from the original recording sessions.
