Dissonance Theory is Coroner’s sixth studio album and their first in 32 years, released in October 2025 on Century Media after a decades‑long hiatus following 1993’s Grin. The 10‑track, 47‑minute record introduces drummer Diego Rapacchietti alongside core members Tommy Vetterli and Ron Broder, and was recorded at New Sound Studio in Switzerland before being mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios, giving it a dense, modern but still organic metal sound. Opening instrumental “Oxymoron” leads into “Consequence,” “Sacrificial Lamb,” “Crisium Bound,” “Symmetry,” “The Law,” “Transparent Eye,” “Trinity,” lead single “Renewal,” and closing instrumental “Prolonging,” forming a continuous, tightly sequenced whole.

Musically, the album sits somewhere between the razor‑sharp technical thrash of Mental Vortex and the industrial‑tinged groove of Grin: down‑tuned, rhythmically intricate riffs, twisted mid‑tempo stomps, and sudden tempo shifts underpin Broder’s harsher, more Mille‑Petrozza‑like vocal attack. Critics highlight songs such as “Consequence” (a dark, hook‑laden track about AI’s pitfalls), the crushing slow‑burn of “Sacrificial Lamb,” the brooding, post‑thrash sprawl of “Crisium Bound,” and the technical showcase “Renewal” as examples of how the band balance precision, heaviness, and subtle progressive tendencies without losing focus. Reviews describe Dissonance Theory as a ferocious and surprisingly contemporary comeback: less experimental than Grin but more urgent and atmospheric, proving that Coroner can re‑enter a modern metal landscape they helped shape and still sound ahead of the curve.
