Dolly Parton is an American singer-songwriter, musician, actress, businesswoman, and philanthropist whose work has made her one of country music’s defining figures. Raised in rural Tennessee, she brought an Appalachian-rooted sensibility to songs that are vivid, plainspoken, emotionally precise, and often built around memorable melodic hooks. Her best-known compositions—including “Coat of Many Colors,” “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” and “9 to 5”—show her range from intimate autobiographical storytelling to sharp character sketches and pop-country anthems.
