En Français
Beyries
En Français is an EP by Montréal-based singer-songwriter Beyries (Amélie Beyries), released in 2018 on her own imprint. Coming a year after her largely English-language debut album Landing (2017), it represents her first sustained foray into French-language recording — a gesture that, as she has noted in interviews, she had always wanted to make but hesitated over, feeling she did not write as naturally in French as in English. The six-track EP gathers her existing French-language output into a single collection, including the previously released singles "Au-delà des mots," "Maman," and "J'aurai cent ans" — the last a duet with Louis-Jean Cormier that earned her a SOCAN songwriting prize nomination — alongside a cover of Diane Tell's beloved Québécois classic "Si j'étais un homme," her version of "Je pars à l'autre bout du monde" (written by Isabelle Fiset and Paul Daraîche and originally associated with the TV series Unité 9), and an acoustic rendition of "Au-delà des mots."
The EP served as a bridge between her English-language studio work and the fully French-language album she would eventually complete: Du feu dans les lilas (2024), her third full-length record and first album recorded entirely in French, which went on to top francophone album sales charts in Canada and win a Félix at the Gala de l'ADISQ. En Français was reissued in April 2025 as a physical CD compilation — again titled En Français — in response to fan demand, gathering five of Beyries's French-language titles onto a single disc for the first time and adding a new French-language cover. As Ici Musique observed of that collection, hearing them all together "renders her already soft voice even more intimate, if such a thing is possible."
