Description

En Route is a four-track EP from Washington D.C.-based rapper and producer Oddisee, released on May 30, 2025 via Mello Music Group — marking his return to the label after a stretch of independent releases. Entirely self-produced, the EP runs just eleven minutes and serves as a follow-up to his 2024 jazz rap EP & Yet Still, arriving almost exactly 365 days later. Stereogum described its premise concisely: each of the four songs "is a reflection of movement — physical, emotional, and spiritual," with the EP functioning as a soulful meditation on the journeys — internal and external — that define human life in the present moment.

The four tracks — "Tomorrow Can't Be Borrowed," "A Rare Thing," "Small Talk," and "Natural Selection" — each approach that theme from a slightly different angle, unified by Oddisee's characteristically warm, jazz-inflected production. Maxazine called it "a soulful snapshot of motion and meaning," with the opening "Tomorrow Can't Be Borrowed" arriving on an infectious piano riff that immediately establishes the mood. Lead single "A Rare Thing" is widely regarded as the EP's standout — Stereogum praised its "rich production, with slow-swelling jazz horns and a truly intricate drum loop," noting that Oddisee navigates the complex time signatures with a serenity that makes it seem effortless. Compact and purposeful, En Route is music for the journey — wherever you happen to be headed.
