Description

EP1 is FKA twigs’ debut extended play, originally self‑released on 12‑inch vinyl on December 4, 2012 and later reissued by Young (formerly Young Turks). Recorded in 2012 and running just under 16 minutes, it introduced her distinctive blend of art pop, trip‑hop, indietronica, and experimental R&B, with intimate, breathy vocals over sparse, eerie electronic production. Twigs co‑produced the EP with Tic, and wrote all four tracks herself, using minimal lyrics and sensual, fragmented beats to sketch a mood rather than offer straightforward pop structures.

The track list consists of “Weak Spot,” “Ache,” “Breathe,” and “Hide,” each with its own accompanying music video, directed by FKA twigs and Grace Ladoja and released online between July and December 2012. These songs already hint at many of the themes she would develop later: obsessive desire (“Ache”), vulnerability and exposure (“Weak Spot,” “Hide”), and the tension between physical intimacy and emotional distance, all delivered in a way that feels like a diary of “beautiful pains.” Critically, EP1 was praised as a promising, genre‑defying start, and after the success of LP1 its limited original pressing became a sought‑after collector’s item; the EP was finally made widely available on streaming services and repressed on heavyweight vinyl in 2016, confirming its status as the foundation of FKA twigs’ art‑pop world.
