Description

Otyg’s Galdersång Till Bergfadern is the Swedish folk-metal group’s 1997 demo, reissued in remastered form on CD and vinyl on April 17, 2026 as part of Hammerheart Records’ complete-discography campaign. The 11-track release captures the band before its two formal studio albums, Älvefärd and Sagovindars Boning, and is an important early document of its distinctly Scandinavian take on folk metal. Led by Andreas “Vintersorg” Hedlund, Otyg combines metal instrumentation with Swedish folk melodies, violin, clean and harsh vocals, and an atmosphere drawn from forests, mountains, winter, and Nordic mythology.

The material is rawer and more demo-like than Otyg’s later albums, but its identity is already fully formed. Songs including the title track, “Fimbulfolket,” “Trollpiskat Ödemarksblod,” “Ulvskrede,” “Älvadimmans Omdaning,” “Fjällstorm,” “Myrdingar – Martyrium,” “Allfader Vise,” “Härnadståg,” “Blåkullafärden,” and “Nordbloss Och Gasteld” favor stirring folk themes and dramatic, elemental imagery over conventional metal aggression. Several tracks—especially “Ulvskrede,” “Älvadimmans Omdaning,” “Fjällstorm,” “Myrdingar – Martyrium,” “Allfader Vise,” and “Trollpiskat Ödemarksblod”—would later be reworked for Älvefärd, making this reissue both a standalone listen and a revealing blueprint for Otyg’s best-known music.
