Description

girls like girls (the album) is a 14-track companion album by Hayley Kiyoko, released on June 12, 2026 via KRO Records and One Riot Records, one week ahead of the theatrical debut of her feature film of the same name. The project grew out of an unusual creative detour: while developing the film adaptation of Melissa Albert's novel — itself inspired by Kiyoko's beloved 2015 single "Girls Like Girls" — Kiyoko found herself unable to license a song she wanted for the movie and decided instead to build an original companion record. As she explained to People, "we can make an inspired-by album where we have some of the songs from the film on the album... and hopefully get the community involved." Four of the album's 14 tracks appear in the film itself, while the remaining ten expand the emotional world of the story beyond the screen.

The album is explicitly conceived as a queer community gathering, featuring an impressive lineup of LGBTQ+ artists: Chelsea Cutler, August Ponthier, Snow Wife, Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko, Joy Oladokun, Gigi Perez, and Canadian duo Tegan and Sara all appear as collaborators. The lead single "collide" (featuring Gigi Perez) set the tone with what GO Magazine described as "soft heartbreak and just enough yearning to ruin your day in a good way," while the closing title track — a new recording of the original 2015 hit reframed for the motion picture — anchors the collection to the song that started everything. With highlights including "trophy" (feat. Joy Oladokun), "postcard" (feat. Tegan and Sara), and "die 4 u" (feat. Young Miko), the album functions simultaneously as a film soundtrack, a sapphic pop playlist, and a decade-spanning celebration of the song that helped Kiyoko come out publicly and earned her the affectionate nickname "Lesbian Jesus."
