Heavy Serenade is the fifth extended play by South Korean girl group NMIXX, released on May 11, 2026 through JYP Entertainment. It follows the group's acclaimed first full-length album Blue Valentine (October 2025), which topped Melon's domestic charts and won 10 music show trophies. The six-track, 16-minute EP is built around the central theme of love — specifically, the idea that the heavier love feels, the more profound and overwhelming it is. As member Lily explained at the album's countdown live, the title is an intentional paradox: a serenade is traditionally a gentle, intimate song sung for a loved one at night, while "heavy" evokes the inescapable emotional weight of deep devotion. The album was released in two physical versions — "Heavy" and "Serenade" — each designed to reflect different facets of that tension, and it debuted at number 1 on the Hanteo Chart and topped iTunes album charts across multiple regions including Thailand, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

Sonically, Heavy Serenade leans into the group's self-described "mix pop" approach — blending contrasting genres not in sequential sections as in their earlier work, but layered simultaneously into a dense, textured sound. The title track, written by acclaimed indie singer-songwriter Hanroro, fuses trance, acid house, and drum and bass into a propulsive electropop framework to convey the feeling of being consumed by love. The pre-release single "Crescendo," co-written by member Lily, builds from delicate melody into dramatic synths to evoke all-encompassing adoration. "LOUD," written solely by Lily, closes the album as a defiant self-love anthem — "You told me to shh, but you make me wanna love you loud" — while "Different Girl" offers a smoother jazz-inflected future bass sound with lyrics co-written by member Bae. As ArtistRack noted, the growing presence of Lily and Bae in the writing credits signals NMIXX's evolution from a polished performance unit into a group with meaningful creative agency over their own output.
