Description

Sallow Moth’s Hydrophilous Brood is an eight-track progressive and brutal death-metal album released by Willowtip Records on July 24, 2026. The Texas project, led by multi-instrumentalist Garry Brents with drummer and co-writer Allen Gingerich, uses dense, technical riffing, dissonant guitar lines, abrupt rhythmic turns, guttural vocals, and occasional fretless bass to create an alien, unstable sound world. At about 38 minutes, the album is compact but intricate: its songs balance punishing death-metal force with progressive structures, jazzy detours, and psychedelic atmosphere.

Conceptually, Hydrophilous Brood continues the fiction of Sallow Moth’s preceding album, Mossbane Lantern. It is set in Pamugara, a lush dimensional nest in which organisms passing through the volatile Mossbane Lantern are rematerialized as hybrid species; each track explores the effects of artifacts from that earlier story. Titles such as “Nebulous Appendages of Vacillant Seafoam,” “Biohybrid Virulence,” and “Arcane Benthic Umbilicus” reflect the record’s aquatic, parasitic, body-horror imagery. “Arcane Benthic Umbilicus” brings a spacey character, the title track pairs dizzying leads with especially intense drumming, and closer “Serene Aqueous Leech” breaks open into a jazz-influenced passage with brushed drums and horn. The result is a vivid piece of speculative world-building as well as a restless, technically adventurous death-metal record.
