It's A Beautiful Day, What A Beautiful Day
Skinhead
It's A Beautiful Day, What A Beautiful Day is the second full-length album from Skinhead, a California-based and New England-bred punk outfit, released on June 20, 2025 through Closed Casket Activities. The band features current and former members of Criminal Instinct, Human Garbage, Terror, Rude Awakening, and God's Hate, and the album was engineered and mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit Recording Studio — Young, a veteran of Twitching Tongues and God's Hate, also joined the band as a full member. The nine-track, 22-minute record follows the group's 2023 debut Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt, and picks up directly where that album left off: a violent and energetic fusion of Punk, Oi!, and Hardcore that wears its working-class street punk roots on its sleeve while threading in unexpected emotional range. The album was released alongside a 28-page hardcover short story collection titled Records on an Island.
Sonically, as Gatekeep described it, the album is "a loud and intentionally obnoxious slab of melodic punk" — but emphatically not a brainless one. The vocalist brings a raspy, breakneck delivery described as sounding like he "eats stones for breakfast," while the guitars offer electrifying, invitingly bright bursts and the arrangements swing between soaring melodic rock and full-throttle hardcore. Thematically, the record is a study in tonal whiplash: "Kill Yourself" is a bouncy, oddly irresistible track with a monster-truck chorus and intentionally outrageous provocation; "Chuck" is a 90-second hardcore elegy for a lost friend; "Separate Checks" imagines a gang of self-described scumbags at a restaurant trying to stick each other with the bill; and the closing track "That's A Promise (The Song About A Dog)" is, by numerous accounts, one of the most genuinely heartfelt songs ever written about a pet. Stereogum called it "riotous," and Gatekeep awarded it an 8.5 out of 10.
