Juan Gabriel’s self-titled Juan Gabriel is the Mexican singer-songwriter’s 27th studio album, released on May 4, 2010. It arrived after a seven-year gap since Inocente de Ti and functions as a reflective return to his core strengths: dramatic ballad writing, mariachi-inflected arrangements, romantic storytelling, and his unmistakably expressive vocal delivery. The 11-song album combines five previously unreleased compositions with six songs that Juan Gabriel had written for other artists but had not recorded himself, allowing him to reclaim and reinterpret material from his own extensive songbook.

The record moves through love, regret, desire, and gratitude in songs such as “Te Vas a Quedar con las Ganas,” “Gracias al Amor,” “Las Tardes Aquellas,” “Mi Más Bello Error,” “De la Cabeza a los Pies,” “Amor Aventurero,” and “Nunca, Nunca Vuelvas.” Its lead single, “¿Por Qué Me Haces Llorar?,” is a sweeping, 1950s-influenced mariachi ballad that exemplifies the album’s melodramatic romantic style, while “Mariachi” pays direct tribute to the musical tradition that shaped much of his career. Closing with “Agradecimiento,” Juan Gabriel feels like a confident late-career statement: less focused on trend-chasing than on presenting the enduring qualities of his songwriting, theatricality, and connection to Mexican popular music.
