Let There Be Love

Tom Tom Club’s Let There Be Love is a career-spanning box set rather than a single original studio album. Released by Rhino in 2026, the collection gathers all six studio albums made by Talking Heads’ rhythm-section partners Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz between 1981 and 2012: Tom Tom Club, Close to the Bone, Boom Boom Chi Boom Boom, Dark Sneak Love Action, The Good, the Bad, and the Funky, and Downtown Rockers. Available as a six-CD set or seven-LP collection, it maps the duo’s evolution from the playful, pioneering electro-funk of “Wordy Rappinghood” and “Genius of Love” through their later mixtures of dance music, reggae, soul, hip-hop, pop, and rock.

The set emphasizes just how distinct Tom Tom Club were from Talking Heads, even though Weymouth’s elastic bass and Frantz’s economical, danceable drumming remain central to both groups’ identities. Across the six albums, their music is communal, colorful, and rhythm-first: homemade-sounding yet adventurous, open to Caribbean grooves, rap, disco, funk, whimsical spoken vocals, and melodic pop. Later highlights include “Call of the Wild,” “Suboceana,” “You Sexy Thing,” “Love Wave,” “Time to Bounce,” the title song “Let There Be Love,” and “Downtown Rockers.” As a whole, Let There Be Love is both an accessible introduction and a substantial archival overview of a project whose influence can be heard across alternative dance, indie pop, electronic music, and hip-hop.
