This particular version was released in 2015 on translucent, single-sided, etched vinyl in a die-cut “wound” sleeve and credited to Björk with producer Untold, as well as digitally via streaming and download platforms. Björk has explained that it features the Icelandic choir Graduale Nobili (who also performed on Biophilia) and that she edited the vocals together with a beat drawn from an old Untold track called “Flexible,” which she admired for its humorous, slapstick quality and refusal to fit any clear genre (not quite punk, house, Charleston, or rave). The result is a version of “Lionsong” that she describes as “one of the characters” the song could be—the “hyper outgoing one”—where the choral swirls and quirky, percussive beat push the song closer to a communal, ritualistic chant than a solitary breakup confession, while still preserving its core lyrical theme of standing in an uncertain, pre-breakup emotional space.
