Mothership (10 Year Anniversary Edition)

Dance Gavin Dance’s Mothership (10 Year Anniversary Edition) commemorates the Sacramento post-hardcore band’s 2016 seventh studio album with a limited sea-blue glitter-vinyl pressing released in 2026. The anniversary package retains the original 13-track, nearly 50-minute album rather than adding new studio material, but renews attention on a record widely regarded as a defining statement of the band’s mid-career lineup. Featuring clean vocalist Tilian Pearson and unclean vocalist Jon Mess, Mothership fuses technical post-hardcore, progressive rock, funk-leaning guitar work, pop hooks, and abrasive breakdowns into a fast-moving, deliberately unpredictable sound.

The album moves from the high-impact opener “Chucky vs. the Giant Tortoise” through melodic and aggressive contrasts in “Young Robot,” “Deception,” “Inspire the Liars,” “Here Comes the Winner,” and “Betrayed by the Game.” Pearson’s bright, elastic melodies are set against Mess’s chaotic screams, while guitarist Will Swan’s intricate riffs and rapid stylistic shifts give songs a restless, theatrical momentum. The longer closing track, “Man of the Year,” provides a more dramatic and emotionally expansive finale after the abrasive “Petting Zoo Justice” and the playful “Chocolate Jackalope.” As an anniversary edition, this release is chiefly a collectible restoration of a pivotal post-hardcore album: a colorful vinyl tribute to Dance Gavin Dance’s knack for turning virtuosity, volatility, and catchy songwriting into one distinctive style.
