Soda Stereo’s MTV Unplugged: Comfort y Música Para Volar is the 2026 reissue of the Argentine trio’s celebrated 1996 MTV session, recorded in Miami during the Sueño Stereo era. Although presented under the Unplugged banner, it deliberately resists the usual all-acoustic format: Gustavo Cerati, Zeta Bosio, and Charly Alberti use electric instruments, keyboards, strings, and carefully layered arrangements to remake songs with a more atmospheric, exploratory sound. The 2026 Music On Vinyl edition restores the expanded performance-based configuration, including the Vox Dei cover “Génesis,” which was absent from the initial 1996 album.
The performance draws together reimagined versions of songs from throughout Soda Stereo’s catalogue, including “Un misil en mi placard,” “En la ciudad de la furia,” “Entre caníbales,” “Cuando pase el temblor,” “Té para 3,” “Zoom,” “Disco eterno,” and “Ella usó mi cabeza como un revólver.” “En la ciudad de la furia” is especially striking as a duet with Andrea Echeverri of Aterciopelados, while “Génesis” extends the group’s connection to Argentine rock history. The original 1996 release was a hybrid: seven live MTV Unplugged recordings followed by four studio outtakes from the Sueño Stereo sessions—“Sonoman,” “Planeador,” “Coral,” and “Superstar.” By contrast, the later expanded edition focuses on the complete MTV performance, making this 2026 reissue a richly textured document of Soda Stereo’s late-period imagination rather than a conventional acoustic greatest-hits set.
