Description

New Bomb Turks’ Nightmare Scenario is a 2000 album by the Columbus, Ohio, punk-rock band, released through Epitaph Records. Running about 34 minutes, it is a fast, abrasive return to the group’s most direct approach after the broader stylistic experiments of At Rope’s End. The record fuses stripped-down punk velocity with garage-rock grit, rock ’n’ roll swagger, and flashes of R&B rhythm—what the band and label framed as “Rust Belt Americana” punk. A 2026 limited translucent-violet vinyl edition brings the album back into print, while the earlier “Diamond Edition” presented remastered original mixes and a bonus track.

The album opens with “Point A to Point Blank,” whose caustic lyrics and racing guitars set its confrontational tone. From there, songs such as “Automatic Teller,” “End of the Great Credibility Race,” “Continental Cats,” “Spanish Fly by Night,” and “Turning Tricks” are compact, high-impact bursts driven by Eric Davidson’s snarling delivery and the band’s raw, four-chord attack. Longer cuts like “Killer’s Kiss” and “Your Beaten Heart” add a little more space without losing the intensity, while “Wine & Depression” and “Quarter to Four” retain the band’s mix of bitter humor, romantic damage, and barroom chaos. Named after a Cold War term for a worst-case political outcome, Nightmare Scenario lives up to its title through its frantic energy, but its lasting appeal is the New Bomb Turks’ ability to make old-school punk feel both reckless and sharply constructed.
