Description
The Prodigy’s No Tourists is their seventh studio album, released November 2, 2018, through Take Me to the Hospital/BMG. Written, produced, and mixed primarily by Liam Howlett, the ten-track, approximately 38-minute collection concentrates the band’s breakbeats, distorted synthesizers, sampled voices, and confrontational vocals into a compact electronic assault. Its defining spirit is defiance, with the title encouraging listeners to stray from prescribed routes rather than follow the crowd. “Need Some1” opens with chopped vocal samples and forceful beats, while “Light Up the Sky” and “We Live Forever” connect the group’s rave foundations to the aggressive energy of their live performances. Keith Flint and Maxim remain integral to that band identity, complementing Howlett’s densely constructed production.
The title track introduces a sinister cinematic motif sampled from John Du Prez’s Bullseye! soundtrack, while “Fight Fire with Fire,” featuring Ho99o9, shifts into a slower, heavier groove. “Timebomb Zone” restores the rapid electronic momentum before “Champions of London” brings Flint and Maxim together in a forceful hometown statement. “Boom Boom Tap” and “Resonate” maintain the emphasis on repetition, bass, and rhythmic impact, with Barns Courtney joining the closing “Give Me a Signal.” Some recording took place on the road—including Flint’s “Champions of London” vocals in a Belgian hotel room—connecting the studio work directly to the touring environment. As the final Prodigy studio album released during Flint’s lifetime, No Tourists also captures the trio’s established chemistry at the end of a significant chapter.
