One Of Us
Self Deception
One Of Us is the sixth studio album by Swedish modern rock band Self Deception, released on May 15, 2026 through Napalm Records — marking the band's debut on the label after years of independent releases. The album was written largely on the road during what the band describes as the heaviest touring stretch of their career, and that experience is woven into its DNA both thematically and sonically. As vocalist Andreas Clark explained at the time of the announcement, "The album revolves around outsidership and the desire to belong. On tour, we meet many lost and lonely people, all seeking a few hours of escape where they can disappear into a rock show. With 'One Of Us,' we want everyone to feel part of something bigger." The cover artwork was created by Alex Tillbrook, an artist known for his work on the Netflix series Stranger Things and collaborations with Metallica, Blink-182, and Sleep Token, lending the album a visually distinctive and appropriately chaotic aesthetic.
Musically, One Of Us fuses anthemic modern metal with melodic rock and groove-driven alternative rock — drawing a lineage back to the band's founding influences of Linkin Park, Papa Roach, and P.O.D., while pushing into heavier and more dynamic territory. The bone-crushing title track opens the record with hardcore-adjacent intensity and in-your-face lyricism, while "Time's Up" pivots to hook-heavy choruses and high-energy instrumentals. "Don't B E L O N G" addresses addiction and mental health through a blend of hauntingly melodic passages and a heavy rhythm section, while "The Wedding" delivers a dark and twisted narrative over an energetic modern rock arrangement, and "Break!" incorporates electronic influences alongside its heavy-hitting drums and sing-along chorus. Closer "Goddamn Me" brings the record to a forceful conclusion, and standouts like "Ketamine Cowboy" and "Blame" round out what Music Scene Media described as "a really fun, infectious sound" full of groove that "gets lodged in your head."
