Description

Dana and Alden’s Papa’s Boat is a 15-track album released August 14, 2026, through Concord Jazz, blending jazz with indie, samba, bossa nova, rap, and pop. The Oregon-born, Brooklyn-based brothers frame the collection around family, travel, and musical curiosity, making exploration its connecting spirit rather than adhering to one genre. Across approximately 51 minutes, short pieces sit beside more expansive collaborations, beginning with “Lighthouse,” featuring EBBA, and “Trick Dog,” featuring Eli Torg. “Summer Nights” and “Napa 86” lead into “Friendship Is a Boat,” where Brazilian songwriter Marcos Valle and saxophonist Salim Charvet help extend the album’s collaborative reach.

The guest performances give the sequence contrasting voices and musical perspectives. Melanie Charles appears on “Milk and Honey” and the nearly seven-minute closer “A Broken Cup,” while Mei Semones joins “Lee’s Greenhouse,” the album’s lead single. “A Lullaby Flew Through My Window,” “My Normal Life,” and “North Star” provide shorter stops between those collaborations, with Cinya Khan contributing to “inthistogether.” Valle returns on “El Gaucho” alongside Mirella Costa and Zaza Desiderio, reinforcing the Brazilian connections within the broader mix. Rather than separating its influences into distinct sections, Papa’s Boat brings them together in a shared musical journey, balancing concise sketches with longer ensemble performances.
