Description

Resurrection (A Bi Gan Film — Original Soundtrack) is M83's score for the acclaimed 2025 Chinese/French science-fiction epic directed by Bi Gan, the visionary filmmaker behind 2018's Long Day's Journey Into Night. The film, which premiered in competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 22 and received the prestigious Prix Spécial from the jury, is set in a future world where humanity has lost the ability to dream — save for a select few mystical beings known as "fantasmers" who can draw others into hallucinogenic visions. The soundtrack was digitally released on December 10, 2025 via M83 Recording Inc., exclusively distributed by Believe, with physical formats — an LP+10" and CD digipak on Anthony Gonzalez's own Other Suns label — following on April 24, 2026.

Composed by M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez, the 12-track, roughly 53-minute score draws on the full breadth of his sonic palette to match the film's surreal, meditative atmosphere. As described by Apple Music, the album balances immersive ambient synthscapes — anchored by the two-part "Spinning Fury" that bookends the record — with organic orchestral writing ("From Bright Lights") and neoclassical piano-and-violin reveries ("Spectres"), all hovering in the liminal space between fantasy and waking reality. The extended centerpiece "Serpentine" runs over six minutes of drifting psychedelia, while the title track proper arrives at track eight as a quiet emotional summit. Stereogum noted that it follows M83's score for A Necessary Escape (the Dakur Chronicles documentary) and marks another step in Gonzalez's increasingly prolific film scoring career, with the synths-and-strings palette described as ideally suited to Bi Gan's overwhelming visual style.
