Description

Rising is the debut album from Lyyra, a six‑voice, all‑women a cappella ensemble based in the US and supported by the VOCES8 Foundation, released March 27, 2026 on Warner Classics. Built entirely from upper voices with no instruments, it’s framed as a genre‑defying exploration of how women’s choral sound can move across classical, folk, jazz, pop, and gospel idioms while remaining cohesive. The group describes the record as an “ode to hope and togetherness,” reflecting both their formation journey and the themes of love, identity, resilience, and community that run through the program.

The 12‑track album spans nearly a millennium of music, from Hildegard von Bingen’s 12th‑century chant “Caritas abundat” to contemporary pieces and new arrangements. It opens with Vienna Teng’s “The Hymn of Acxiom,” whose eerie text about data‑age surveillance is set in shimmering, almost time‑suspended harmony, then flows seamlessly back into Hildegard, Amy Beach’s “Dusk in June,” and modern works like Blake Morgan’s “Moonrise.” Later, they rework the American spiritual “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” Leslie Savoy Burrs’s “Rise Up My Love,” Laura Mvula’s “She,” and Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie, plus Donny Hathaway’s “Someday We’ll All Be Free,” threading themes of womanhood, struggle, and liberation through different eras and styles.
