Description

Otyg’s Sagovindars Boning is the Swedish folk-metal band’s 1999 second full-length album, originally issued during the first wave of Scandinavian folk metal and reissued in 2026 by Napalm Records. The record combines heavy guitar riffs and forceful metal rhythms with a distinctly Nordic folk palette, including fiddle, acoustic instruments, mouth harp, and traditional melodic figures. Sung in Swedish, it draws its atmosphere from forests, mountains, trolls, elves, werewolves, and other figures associated with Scandinavian folklore, making it feel less like generic fantasy metal than a musical immersion in regional myth and landscape.

Across twelve tracks, Sagovindars Boning balances vigorous folk-metal energy with more rustic, melodic passages. “Trollslottet,” “Vilievandring,” “Galdersbesjungen,” “När Älvadrottningen Kröns,” “Bäckahästen,” “Årstider,” “Mossfrun Kölnar,” “Vättar och Jättar,” “Lövjerskan,” “Varulvsnatt,” and the extended closer “Gygralock” all use this interplay of distorted guitars and traditional instruments to create a windswept, story-driven sound. The album also features an unusual cover of Dio’s “Holy Diver,” recast with folk instrumentation—including mouth harp—which highlights the band’s willingness to merge classic heavy metal with their own Scandinavian identity. Overall, Sagovindars Boning is a richly atmospheric folk-metal album: earthy, melodic, and steeped in the legends that inspired its Swedish lyrics and instrumental colors.
