Ike Quebec’s The Classic Blue Note Collection is a 2026 four-CD anthology that surveys almost all of the tenor saxophonist’s recordings for Blue Note Records. Rather than one newly conceived album, it functions as a compact career retrospective: eight original releases across 61 tracks, beginning with Quebec’s 1940s swing-era 78 rpm sides, continuing through his 1950s singles, and culminating in the five albums he recorded for Blue Note between 1959 and 1963. The collection follows the unusually broad trajectory of a musician whose breathy, full-toned tenor could move naturally between swing, blues, ballads, hard bop, organ-led soul jazz, and Brazilian-inflected material.

The set includes selections from the early Ike Quebec Tenor Sax sessions and later albums including Heavy Soul, Blue & Sentimental, It Might as Well Be Spring, Easy Living, and Bossa Nova Soul Samba. Its repertoire ranges from compact early tracks such as “Hard Tack,” “Topsy,” and “Light Reprieve” to soulful later performances of “Blue and Sentimental,” “Lover Man,” “Willow Weep for Me,” “Nature Boy,” “See See Rider,” and “Blue Samba.” Along the way, Quebec is joined by musicians including Grant Green, Sonny Clark, Paul Chambers, Sam Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Louis Hayes, and organist Earl Van Dyke. Overall, The Classic Blue Note Collection presents Quebec as a warm, emotionally direct stylist whose work brought elegance and blues feeling to every setting, making it an accessible introduction as well as a substantial archive for longtime jazz listeners.
