Dolly Parton is an American singer-songwriter, musician, actress, businesswoman, and philanthropist whose work has made her one of country music’s defining figures. Raised in rural Tennessee, she brought an Appalachian-rooted sensibility to songs that are vivid, plainspoken, emotionally precise, and often built around memorable melodic hooks.
