The World I Want to Leave Behind is the fourth and final studio album by Canadian indie rock and post-hardcore band Moneen, released on September 15, 2009 via Dine Alone Records in Canada and Vagrant Records in the United States. Recorded beginning in December 2008, the 12-track album marked a number of firsts for the band: it was their first record with drummer Steve Nunnaro, who the remaining members — vocalist and guitarist Kenny Bridges, guitarist Vince Soliveri, and bassist Chris Hughes — credited as a significant creative contributor, and it was the first to feature additional instrumentation including harp (Kristen Theriault) and cello (Nick Storring). Produced with co-producer assistance and mixed with a cleaner, more spacious sound than previous records, the album traded some of the post-hardcore noise and density of The Red Tree (2006) for more restrained, melodic songwriting — a shift the band framed not as reinvention but as deliberate exploration of ideas they had previously been "scared of."

The album opens with its brief, atmospheric title track — just under two minutes — before moving into the core of its songwriting: the quiet-to-loud dynamic that defined Moneen at their best, with Bridges's vocals building from calm, intimate verses into passionate, soaring choruses on tracks like "Hold That Sound," "Great Escape," "Redefine," and the album's centrepiece "Waterfalls." ReadJunk.com called it "a masterpiece with carefully crafted details in each track," while Rockfreaks.net noted the band remained "criminally underrated and unknown" despite delivering work of impressive depth and consistency. The vinyl edition included the bonus track "Dark & Ugly" not present on the CD version. The album stands as a mature and emotionally expansive capstone to the band's discography, showcasing a group fully confident in their sound at the moment they chose to step away from recording.
