Elder
Through Zero is Elder’s 2026 seventh studio album, a six-track, 53-minute work of progressive heavy psych that favors long-form construction over conventional song length. Released on May 29 through Blues Funeral Recordings, Stickman Records, and Bird’s Robe, it was self-produced by the band and co-mixed with longtime collaborator Richard Behrens after being recorded at Berlin’s Big Snuff Studios. The album builds on Elder’s blend of towering stoner-metal riffs, progressive-rock dynamics, psychedelic atmosphere, and synthesizer color, while sounding darker and more introspective than some of their recent work.
Its tracks—“Sigil To Ruin,” “Capture/Release,” “Through Zero,” “Strata,” “Sight Unseen,” and “Blighted Age”—unfold as extended suites, moving through dense guitar passages, shifting rhythms, spacious keyboard textures, and quieter melodic interludes. The title comes from audio engineering, where “through zero” refers to a signal crossing the zero point and inverting phase; vocalist-guitarist Nick DiSalvo uses it as a metaphor for impermanence, mortality, and the effort to find peace and solidarity with the dead. That philosophical focus gives the record an emotional center beneath its scale and heaviness: it is music about transformation, not simply force.
