Description

Trilogy is a three‑disc budget compilation of pre‑Island Bob Marley & The Wailers material, released through Argentine label Music Brokers and similar licensors in the mid‑2000s and reissued in various configurations since. Rather than drawing from the famous 1970s Island albums, it focuses on earlier late‑’60s and very early‑’70s cuts recorded for producers like Leslie Kong and Lee “Scratch” Perry, packaging them as a compact, low‑priced box or 3‑CD set. Across roughly 35–40 tracks, it cycles through songs such as “There She Goes,” “Can’t You See,” “Cheer Up,” “Back Out,” “Satisfy My Soul,” “Redder Than Red,” “Mellow Mood,” “Soul Shakedown Party,” “Nice Time,” “Love Life,” “Try Me,” and other early sides that have appeared under many different titles over the years.

The emphasis here is on Marley’s formative years, when the Wailers were evolving from ska and rocksteady toward the slower, heavier rhythms that would define roots reggae. Production is comparatively raw and minimal—tight rhythm section, close‑miked vocals, occasional horns—with none of the big‑studio sheen of Catch a Fire or Exodus. As with many grey‑area compilations of this material, Trilogy is aimed at casual buyers and crate‑diggers who want a broad sampler of early Wailers songs in one cheap package, rather than a carefully annotated, definitive archive release.
