Description

Where The Echoes Bloom is the debut album by Los Angeles-based theremin player, composer, and songwriter Alia (Alia Mohmed), released on Leaving Records on June 26, 2026. Spanning nine tracks and roughly 38 minutes, it weaves together theremin, kacapi (a Sundanese zither), synthesizers, and field recordings into a set of atmospheric pieces that sit at the intersection of ambient, experimental electronica, and dreamlike song form. Titles such as Soul of My Soul, Crescent Sun, Jogja, Aquamarine Dream, Intimate, Endless Love, Nightbloom, Daughter of the Nile, and The Thorn and the Carnation suggest a focus on personal memory, geography, and mythic or botanical imagery, all filtered through slow-moving, shimmering textures and gently unfolding melodic lines.

Much of the album’s character comes from the way Alia uses the theremin’s voice-like glissandi and vibrato in conversation with plucked kacapi patterns and environmental sounds gathered across different locations. Announcements and early write-ups emphasize a “haunting, shimmering beauty” and “organic, natural textures,” pointing to a production approach rooted in home recording that allows the electronic and acoustic elements to blur rather than stand apart. Coming after her 2025 Harold Budd cover collaboration with harpist Nailah Hunter, Where The Echoes Bloom feels like a consolidation of Alia’s aesthetic: spacious, quietly emotive, and guided more by intuition and chance encounters than by rigid structure, inviting listeners into a sonic environment where melodies, drones, and environmental echoes bloom and fade rather than resolve in conventional song arcs.
